George Janson

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces graveside services for Mr. George Peter Janson, age 90 of Hiawassee, passed away Friday morning September 16, 2016 at Brasstown Manor in Hiawassee.

Mr. Janson was born in Canton, Ohio, the son of the late Peter Janidis and the late Frances Pappas Janidis. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and worked in communications in the South Pacific. Mr. Janson had worked as a salesman for Honeywell, and had many interests: he was a member of Ham Radio Club; an avid reader and photographer; and in tennis, both a fan and a player; and served as a volunteer for the Special Olympics. He was of the Greek Orthodox faith. Besides his parents, Mr. Janson had been preceded in death by a sister, Helen Paulos.

Surviving family members include two sisters: Dorothy Bilinovich, and Sonia (Tom) Murphy; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services have been scheduled for Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., to be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
