Albert L. Asher

November 20, 1924 — February 24, 2013

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death of Mr. Albert L. Asher, 88, of Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville, who was finally released to his heavenly home in the early morning of Sunday, February 24, 2013, following an extended illness.

He was a loving husband to Dorothy, brother to Mary Lou and Jim; brother-in-law to their spouses and brother-in-law to the Wood family: Leslie, Martha, Delmer, Roger, Mary Ellen and Jimmy and their spouses; Uncle Bert to all their children; father to Glenn and and Sue; father-in-law to Cindy; grandfather to Doug, Jerrod, Aimee and husband Trace; Jenna and Adam and wife Erin. Great grandpapa to a dozen children, who will be his lasting memorial as they carry on his legacy of a hardworking, self-sacrificing Christian man. He left many friends who loved him well - in particular, Wanda Patterson of Blue Ridge, Georgia. Neighbors here in the hollow will think of him and remember a man who loved living here and drove his little Boston Terrier around in the golf cart, stopping to visit anyone who was out and about.

He was born in the house William Albert Asher built for his bride Edna in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. After returning home to Oklahoma after World War II, where he was interred by the Germans as a POW at the Battle of the Bulge, he carried on his father's career in the oilfield. He worked for only one company that had many names from the time he began work in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 17 until his retirement in 1985 in Crane, Texas: Tidal Pipeline, Tidewater Oil Company, Getty Oil, Texaco, and then Chevron.

His Christmas card list remains active with many of these oilfield friends who have graciously kept up with him in his many retirement meanderings.

He was a quiet, private man who asked for little in life and in death asked only that "you do what you need to do" to remember him. Memorial plans are pending at this time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville. Please share your condolences to the family on our website, www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
