Bill Whatley

July 14, 1929 — December 5, 2014

Mr. Wilbur B. Whatley, Sr., of Blairsville, passed away at Union General Hospital December 5, 2014, surrounded by loving family members.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 12, 1929, son of Louis Enoch and Bertha Dempsey Whatley. His family moved back to Florida when he was very young. He graduated from Auburndale High School, and attended Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia. Bill married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Bolin - a marriage that lasted 65 years. He owned several businesses, including home fuel delivery, Western Auto, and an egg farm. He retired from Coca Cola Foods in Auburndale. Bill was involved in local politics, serving nine years as City Commissioner, and two terms as Mayor. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Auburndale; a life member of the Masonic Lodge, Egypt Temple Shrine, and a lifetime Rotarian. He was predeceased by his parents, and his son Mike (12-19-13), and two brothers.

Bill loved to travel, loved the outdoors and animals, especially dogs and cows. He loved football games, and cowboy shows on TV......but most of all he loved his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy B. Whatley; daughters Sandi Richards (Paul) of Blairsville; Trish Efird (James) of Clemmons, North Carolina; son, Bill Whatley, Jr. (Gail) of Brooksville, Florida; ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
