Bonnie Lois Mann Shook has finally gone home to be with her Lord and dearly loved late husband James Willard Shook. For the last ten years at Pruitt Health Care of Blue Ridge she has looked for Willard. Now she can be with him at last.
Theirs was a beautiful marriage, lasting more than fifty years before she lost Willard. Bonnie married when she was a teenager to Willard, he wasn't much older. They were lifelong residents of the Sugar Creek settlement of Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Bonnie lived in the shadow of where she was born to the late John Henry and Beautell Ballew Mann. Willard and Bonnie lived and raised their family in the family homestead where he and two of their children were born.
Bonnie and Willard were accomplished parents teaching their children by example, kind, caring, thoughtful, extremely loving and in the ways of God by raising them in their beloved Young Chapel Church.
Besides being a fantastic mother, Bonnie always worked. Over all the employment that she had, her favorite was working at Sky City a department store. There she excelled with her outgoing, tender, loving personality. Everyone wanted Miss Bonnie, as everyone called her, to assist them while in the store.
Bonnie and Willard were very active in their church where they used to sing; so much so that they formed a group called the Spiritual Aires. They sang in churches all over. People loved to hear them sing, but Bonnie's calling was to be a wife and mother, both she was the greatest at. Always they came first. She provided when sometimes all odds were against her. She would do anything for her husband Willard and her children, Janie, Judy and Butch. Her favorites were Birthdays, Christmas, and Cooking for her family. Each child and Willard had a favorite food which she usually produced. She made wonderful marshmallow fudge which she created her own way of stirring, I believe she invented the twist. Her coconut cakes would melt in your mouth with the creamiest icing ever tasted. Then there was her chocolate gravy for her wonderful biscuits.
Birthdays were a treat, she would have more presents and surprises than anyone could imagine. Christmas was even grander. Her house would be loaded with gifts for everyone, beautifully decorated and bursting at the seams, so to speak as was Bonnie, anticipating the reaction of her loved ones while opening their gifts.
Bonnie leaves a legacy not many have ever achieved, three loved children, five loved grandchildren, whom all loved their granny to no end, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild that will only hear talk of the grandest wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend to all. Bonnie is dearly missed.
A letter of love from Judy and Jim Jones-
