Carlos Ingram

June 27, 1920 — December 30, 2013

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Carlos Ingram, age 93, of Blairsville who passed away Monday evening, December 30, 2013, at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee.

Mr. Ingram was born on June 27, 1920 in Young Harris, Georgia to the late Charlie & Liza (Thomas) Ingram. At the age of 12, his family left the rough plowing grounds of the home place in the Plottown area and traveled the gravel road on a wagon headed toward Blairsville. Carlos was called upon to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II. With pride he courageously fought in the European Theater. During one fierce battle he was separated from his platoon for 3 days. When it was time to return home, given the option to sail or fly back he chose to float back the same way he came. Carlos met a beauty at his church named Artie and was love struck at first sight. After some persistence on his part and competition, he won her heart. The two enjoyed each other as hunting & fishing buddies, traveling companions and best friends. Together they raised 10 children with love, joy and most importantly, faith.

Carlos was a God fearing man who was all about his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father and wise grandfather. Never being afraid to stand up for what he believed. Carlos retired with over 20 years of service from Arbor Acres. Starting each day early just as he had done all his life, he stayed active building bird houses, crafting chairs and other useful items and even venturing into beekeeping. He was blessed beyond measure with family, health and friendship. His walk with the Lord defined and shaped who he was.

He leaves behind to treasure his memory a multitude of friends and his loving family: daughters, Audrey Hemphill & Mildred Babb; sons & daughter-in-laws, Ray & Jo Lynn Ingram and Harold & Linda Ingram; daughters & son-in-laws, Kathy & Johnny Hogsed, Helen & Jimmy Hogsed, Rachel & Hank McClure and Sheila & Lonnie Wright; and a sister, Jessie Cantrell. Also sharing in his legacy are 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his loving wife of 53 years, Artie Belle (King) Ingram; son, Frank Ingram; daughter, Grapell Johnson; grandson, Jeff Johnson; great granddaughter, Chasity Ingram; his parents; brothers, Rufus Ingram & Eulas Ingram and sisters, Dorothy Cantrell, Ora Ingram and Gladys Stucker. Always remembering his most common phrase, " If I don't see ya here, I'll see ya on the otherside!"

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Young & Rev. Jonathon Hood officiating. Special music will be shared by Jimmy & Johnny Hogsed, Howard Brys and Kevin, Zach & Justin Potts. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. A committal service will be led by Rev. Jeremy Henderson with military honors presented by The North Georgia Honor Guard. Honorably serving as pallbearers are the Grandson's of Mr. Ingram. Honorary escort will include: L.D. White, Wayne Roberts and James Weaver. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
