Clifford Owl

Mr. Clifford Owl, Sr. age 94 of Murphy, passed away September 2, 2014 at his home. Clifford was born March 20, 1920 in Swain Co., NC to the late Mark Owl and the late Belva Smith Owl. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Jarrett Owl, Oscar Owl, Ralph Owl, Eugene Owl, twin brother Jack Owl, and Edna Owl McMillian. During WWII he served in the Army and fought for his country. Clifford was a farmer and an outdoors man. He enjoyed fishing and taking walks in the mountains. He also liked playing the harmonica and gardening.

Survivors include: wife, Maggie Reed Owl, eleven children, Norman Reed, Clifford Owl Jr., Henry Owl, Perry Owl, Kermit Owl, Lex Owl, Raymond Owl, Alva Chastain, Belva Ashe, Shirley Rogers, and Norma Coleman; brother, Raymond Owl; sister, Emaline Lambert, sister, Rosie Marler, twenty grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 6-8 pm. A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Owl Family Cemetery. Pallbearers include, Norman Reed, Jr., Ben Reed, Conan Tchakirides, Chuck Medford, Frank Reed and Doug Reed. Honorary Pallbearers are Arvil Chastain and Keith Cook.
