Donald Anders Postell

Donald Anders Postell, 83, died October 12, 2014 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home. He was born January 10, 1931 in Gaston County, son of the late Samuel Luther and Clara Derreberry Postell.

Donald served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1958. He was a Gastonia police officer and a machinist by trade. Playing guitar for many years, Donald was a very talented musician. He performed with many musicians over the years and cut several albums with various groups. He was much loved by his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. Donald loved nature, hunting, fishing, hiking, and especially his beloved Smoky Mountains.

The family would like to thank the staff of Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home for the care and comfort shown to Donald and the family during his stay there.


Survivors include his wife, Anna Lee Rowland Postell, of Topton; daughter, Kathy Postell Rixon and husband Kevin of Lymington, England; and son, Donnie Postell and wife Brittany of Gastonia; 6 grandchildren, Alicia Lutz (Peter) of Gastonia, Leslie Barrientos (Moises) of Gastonia, Kristin Patterson (Daniel) of Gastonia, Jake Wilcox of Janesville, Wisconsin, Sam Postell of Gastonia, Shaylin Bare of Gastonia; 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Wall Postell; sisters Maudie Forbes, Mae Wilson, Hazel Woody, Ruth McGuire; and brothers Hayden Postell, Arthur Postell, Arnold Postell, and Delmar Postell.




A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City, NC.
