Mr. Douglas Edward Wilson, age 72, of Rockwood, passed away in the early morning hours of May 6, 2015 with his family by his side. Douglas graduated from West Fannin High School; the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, Memphis. As a teenager, Doug was employed at Talent Drugstore in Copperhill. Mr. Wilson was owner of Wilson Drug Center, 1967-1997. He was the Pharmacist at Rite Aid from 1997-2012. In 1992, he was awarded Tennessee Pharmacist of the year. Doug was a member of the Roane State Foundation Board since 1990, serving as Chairman on two occasions. He served on the Roane County Election Commission, served as Chairman of Chamberlain Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and as past President of the Rockwood Civitan Club where he was a member for 47 years. He was a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee and also served the Democratic Party statewide in many capacities. Doug was past Chairman of Friends of Scouting Catoosa District of the Great Smokey Mountain Council. He was involved in many, many Civic, Pharmaceutical and Political organizations. The Rockwood Recreation Center has been re-named the Douglas E. Wilson Recreation Center in his memory.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edd Wilson; his maternal grandmother, Bonnie Turner Grantham; his maternal grandfather, Joe Grantham; his paternal grandmother, Mary Lively Wilson; and his paternal grandfather , Foxy John Wilson.
He is survived by mother, Laura Ruth Wilson of Signal Mountain, TN and formerly of Copperhill, wife, Carolyn Bowling Wilson of Rockwood, son and daughter-in-law, Charles Edward and Kate Vermeer Wilson and their two children, Dutch Edward and Lorelei Eloise Wilson of Asheville, NC, daughter and son-in-law, Susan Wilson and Aaron Ficken and their daughter, Margaret Adalee Ficken of Simpsonville, SC, sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca Wilson Hale and Robert Hale, two nieces and many other family members and friends.
Reverend Danny Joe Cline will lead a graveside celebration of life and interment at the Pantertown Cemetery on Panwill Rd. off of Hwy 60 in McCaysville, Georgia at 11:00am on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Family and Friends will gather at Williamstown United Methodist Church, 35 Williamstown Road in Mineral Bluff, Georgia 30559 following the burial. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials Donation can be made to Roane State Foundation, 276 Patton Lane, Harriman, Tennessee 37748, where a Wilson Family Scholarship will be established. Evans Mortuary is serving the family of Mr. Douglas E. "Doug" Wilson.
