Edith Angeline Hogsed Garrett

November 9, 1919 — January 1, 2021

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces the death of Edith Angeline Hogsed Garrett, "Aunt Ned" to many, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at the age of 101. A native of the Shooting Creek community of Clay County, North Carolina, she was born November 9th, 1919, as the baby sister to the late Newton and Curtis Hogsed, and only daughter to the late Glen and Mandy (Cowart) Hogsed. She was a lifelong resident of the Upper Bell Creek Community of Hiawassee.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Unseld Garrett; daughter, Billie Garrett Barrett Ford; and son, Jerry Garrett.

She is survived by son, Kemmy Garrett and wife, Shelia of Hiawassee; granddaughters, Kimberly Garrett and husband, Jordan Payne of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Angie Barrett Deaton and husband Nick of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee; grandson Tony Ford and wife Lacie, of Hiawassee, Georgia. She was also the proud great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Aunt Ned will not only be missed by her immediate family, but by everyone her kindness and hospitality touched. She always told visitors to go in the kitchen to "fix you a plate" and if they couldn't stay long enough to sit down and eat, she made sure to fix them a plate to take with them, or at least send a few of her famous biscuits with them. An avid outdoors woman, she spent many days outside, tending to one of her many gardens, feeding stray animals that came by, or taking hikes and fishing. Even in the winter, she continued to grow her 'maters in planters around the house. Her legacy will continue to live on through her family, whether it be their love of gardening, passing the time crocheting things or painting for friends and family or cooking and baking things to share with anyone that may happen to stop by for a visit or just need a smile.

Due to COVID-19, a service will not be held and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date with her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the local food pantries or fixing a meal for a neighbor, in the spirit of Aunt Ned, always willing to share what she may have on hand to visitors and neighbors.

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee has been entrusted with the arrangements. Please share your condolences and fond memories online with the family at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
