Edward Sylvanus Towery

Mr. Edward Sylvanus Towery, age 74, of Mitchell Dr., Blairsville, GA passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Towery was born in Blairsville, GA, on June 6, 1935, to the late Marcus Lihu Towery and Lula Belle Clark Towery. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Prescott (JP) Towery, Rev. Mark (Junior) Towery, and Ray Towery; two sisters, Opal Towery and Etta Mae Jones. He served in the US Army, was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., a member of the Young Cane Masonic Lodge No. 597, F. & A.M., and a member of the Choestoe Baptist Church. He owned and Operated several businesses after returning to Blairsville in 1971, and retired from Arbor Acres Farm Inc. in 1995.
Surviving Mr. Towery are his wife of 46 years, (June 15, 1963) Miriam Housley Towery of the home; one brother & sister-in-law, Baxter & Diantha Towery of Yorkille, GA; several nieces & nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Potts officiataing. Music will be provided by . The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers Blair Housley, B. B. Housley, Danny Sullivan, Jimmy Towery, Baxter Towery and Ron Towery. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers Dennis Hamby, Ronnie Odom, Rev. Ken Zollinger, Robbie Lou Jones, Angelia Transue, Rev. Mark Jones, Danny Towery, Joey Towery and Victor Towery. Interment will follow in Union Memory Gardens with members of The North Georgia Honor Guard conducting Military Honors.
In Lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Humane Society's Mountain Shelter in Mr. Towery's memory.
The family will recive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 until 9 p.m..
