The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Lee Barrett, age 93, of Hiawassee who passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. Mrs. Barrett was born in Towns County, Georgia on October 10, 1918 to the late Luther and Carrie Melton. Ethel was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to cook for them and best known for her famous homemade biscuits, apple jellies, strawberry cobblers and bread and butter pickles. All of which were made with love. Later, She became a Senior Citizens director in Hiawassee where she planned and organized many senior trips to Pigeon Forge and to the Grand Ole Opry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Barrett; her parents; and a son, Donald L. Barrett.

She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: Daughter, Virginia Spiva of Atlanta; Sons, James Douglas Barrett, Ronnie Leon Barrett, Danny Kenneth Barrett and Larry David Barrett all of Hiawassee; Grandchildren, Brad Barrett, Britt Barrett, Brian Barrett, Brandi Barrett, Bethany Barrett, India London, Blythe Barrett and Blair Barrett; Great Grandchildren, Buck Barrett, Stephan London and Alexis London; Brother, Oswald C. Melton of Marietta, Georgia; Sister, Marie Deyton of Canton, Ohio; Half Sisters, Nova Jo Kimsey, Audrey Nichols and Meredith Fortenberry; and a Half Brother, Charles Nichols.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2011 from Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating. Special music will be provided by Bobby Taylor and Bruce & Judy Rogers. Interment will follow in Osborn Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Brad Barrett, Brian Barrett, Britt Barrett, Timothy Deyton, Daniel London and Dustin Burch. Bernard Moody, Dale Penland and James Melton will serve as Honorary Escort to the family. The family will receive friends at Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee on Saturday evening from 6 until 9 p.m..
