Gale Marie Filler

With glory and grace to God, we celebrate the life of God’s faithful servant, Gale Filler. At 80, Gale died peacefully on Saturday , November 6th at Union County Nursing Home. Born in Endicott, NY, Gale attended Hartwick College where she graduated with a degree in education. Eventually settling in Maryland, her career as a teacher and principal spanned 30 years and positively impacted the lives of thousands of children. She spent the last 20 years of her retirement in Blairsville, GA with beloved husband, Jim Filler.

Throughout her life, Gale was an active member of her community where she taught Sunday School and served as a deacon.

Gale enjoyed spending time with family and friends and kept a busy social calendar filled with activities like line dancing, gourmet club, and playing cards. She had a passion for singing and music and was able to showcase this through her participation in her church’s choir. She attended First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Gale was a great friend and even better mother and grandmother. Her greatest gift to her family and friends was her unwavering devotion to our savior, Jesus Christ. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Charles and Madelyn Gruesbeck and her brother, Charles H. Gruesbeck. She is survived by her loving family members: husband, Percy J. filler of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-in-law David and Karla Scarzafava of Washington, GA; daughter and son-in-law Shelly and Brian Sheets of Darien, GA; step daughter, Amanda Makepeace of Athens, GA, sister, Nelda Thompson of Chattanooga,TN. She also has six grandchildren who all reside in Georgia.

Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing scheduled for 12:00 and funeral at 2:00 at Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville on Wednesday, November 10th.
