Gerald Edward West

Mr. Gerald Edward West, age 69 of Andrews, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Valley View Care Center. Mr. West was born March 4, 1944 in Andrews, NC to the late Edmond West and the late Palice Gregory West. Gerald was a member of Junaluska Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He loved attending church and took an active part in it. He was a carpenter by trade and helped build numerous beautiful homes in the surrounding area. He spent his free time hunting, fishing, or camping.
Along with his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by sisters, Lois Farmer of Danville, VA., Hazel Pilkey of Andrews, NC, and Betty West Shields of Andrews, NC.
Survivors include wife, Carolyn McClure West, brothers, Earl West and wife Barbara of Andrews, Kenneth West and wife Lawana of Andrews, sisters, Mary Ruth Shields of Andrews, Sally Mayes and husband Wayne of Kings Mnt., NC, and Doris Winebarger of Hickory, NC.
Also surviving are his children, Pam West Carringer and husband Billy of Andrews, Jamie West and wife Renee of Andrews, Chris West of the home, and Tammy West McCoy and husband Brian of Marble, NC. Grandchildren, Dakotah Carringer, Jericho West, Jacqueline West, Brannon McCoy and Blake McCoy.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Junaluska Baptist Church with the Pastor Patrick O'Dell officiating with Senior Pastor Lewis Welch and Marvin Rogers assisting. Music provided by the Junaluska Church Choir. Interment will follow in the Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers include Scott West, Roy West, Austin West, Chris Walker, Melvin Hicks and Joey Lanphere. Honorary pallbearers are Leonard Stillwell, Carroll Kuykendall, Jeremy Hicks, Clyde Yonce, Dale LeQuire and Mike Allison.
The family will receive friends at the Junaluska Baptist Church on Sunday from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm.
