Hoyt Edward Dockery, age 77, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Clay County Care Center. Hoyt was born Saturday, October 5, 1929 in Cherokee to the late John Jenning Dockery and the late Mattie E. Allen Dockery. He was a US Army veteran. He was a member of the Tomatla Baptist Church, former chief of the Hanging Dog Fire Department for fifteen years, and he retired from the US Forestry Service. He was preceded in death by wifes, Louise Kephart Dockery in 1974 and Doris Kilpatrick Dockery in 2005.

Survivors include: daughter, Amy Dockery Allen of Murphy, step son, Chuck Mallonee, sister, Audrey Loudermilk of Marble, brother, Claude W. Dockery of Barberton, OH, granddaughter, Hillary Allen, granddaughter, Hannah Allen, granddaughter, Haven Allen, granddaughter, Haizlee Allen, step grandson, Justin Mallonee, sister in law & bro. in law, Jo & Gene Stiles of Murphy, sister in law & bro. in law, Ann & Kermit Stiles, sister in law & bro. in law, Pat & Gary Barnett, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 11:00AM from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Calvin Murphy officiating. Music will be provided by Valerie Taylor. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: members of the Hanging Dog Fire Department, Bob Deweese, David Gentry, Paul Beaver, Larry Mintz, Roger Kephart, and Herbert Nix . Honorary pallbearers include: Frank Whidden, David Walker, Robbie Stalcup, Vicki Beaver, Andy Williams, Allison Kelly Stalcup, Howard Beaver, Jamie Stiles, Beach Davis, Stacy Hughes, Zeke Quillian, Kevin Carter, Duane Tuell, Brent Burrell, David Mashburn, James Brown, Jamie Brown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10-11, Saturday, March 10.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Hanging Dog Fire Department C/O Bob Deweese, 3839 Hanging Dog Road Murphy, NC 28906
