J.D. Peek

Mr. J. D. Peek, age 79 of Murphy, went to be with his Lord and savior Saturday, February 27, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. J.D. was born February 14, 1937 in Murphy, NC to the late Bart Peek and the late Cora Stiles Peek. He attended and later became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He also attended the Old Fashion Baptist Church for 14 years until he couldn't attend anymore for health reasons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Norvell Peek, brother, Felix Peek, infant sister, Hazel Peek and sister, Helen Greene. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a mechanic by trade and the Director of Transportation for the Cherokee County Schools.

Survivors include adoring wife, Dora Radford Peek, daughter, Lynn (Tom) Deweese, daughter, Sherry Peek, son, Steve (Susan) Peek, one sister, Kathryn Davis, seven grandchildren, Mark, Evan, Brittany, Kendra, Stephanie, Chelsea and Tiffani.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 6:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Hoyt Brown and Rev. Edward Carter officiating. Interment will follow on Monday Morning, February 29, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers include Evan Deweese, Mark Deweese, Adam Radford, Douglas Radford, Robbie Tompa, William Leatherwood, Jonathon Newton, and Tim Radford. Honorary pallbearers are J.D.'s special little buddy Mason Radford and Eric Radford.

The family will receive friends Sunday Evening, February 28, 2016 at the funeral home from 4-6 pm.
