Mr. Mincey was born November 6, 1921, in Waynesboro, Georgia, a son of the late Benjamin Alexander Mincey and Lillie Stewart Mincey. Mr. Mincey had been living here in Blairsville since 1985. A member of Coosa United Methodist Church, James was active in the Oasis program. Mr. Mincey had proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a survivor of the Battle of Midway and the Coral Sea. James had been stationed on the U.S.S. Yorktown, and after it sank, he and others had to tread water for 8 hours before being rescued. James loved life and lived life to the fullest - three times he had white-water rafted the Colorado River, and in India, he had ridden elephants and white-water rafted in Nepal. Quiet-natured, James also had sense of humor and was known to play a joke now and then. When James spoke everyone would stop to listen, because he was a man of few words.Being a skilled outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. James and his wife also enjoyed golfing together. He had volunteered to deliver daffodils for Relay for Life; and also with the American Heart Fund.

J.B will be greatly missed by all, especially his loving family: his wife of 63 1/2 years, Anne, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Butch Quick, and daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Kermit Welborn; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. The legacy he leaves behind will certainly live forever.
