Lewis Hyde

Lewis Hyde, 93, of Andrews passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Valley View Health Care in Andrews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Valley River Baptist Church with Reverends France Postell and Lewis Welch officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery after the service.
He was born in Swain County, but has lived in Cherokee County for the past 85 years. He was the son of James Marion and Cora West Hyde.
He was a Carpenter and a farmer. Lewis enjoyed tending his garden and bee keeping in his later years.
He was a member of Valley River Baptist Church, wich he had attended most of his life, and had helped build the present church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Lee and Peggy Hyde, Roy and Mary Ruth Hyde, and David Hyde all of Andrews. One sister and brother-in-law; Nell and Lennell Keenum of Gastonia, N.C.
Surviving are; one sister and brother-in-law Helen and Hoyle Gold of Polkville, N.C. brother and sister-in-law; Lawrence and Judy Hyde of Andrews. Also one sister-in-law Sara Hyde of Andrews. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers are Joe Gold, Dale Keenum, Jimmy Hyde, Brandon Hyde, John David Hyde and Carroll Hyde. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Shuler, Jim Vollmer, and James Harris.
Mr. Hyde will lie in state at the church from 12:00 pm Tuesday until service time. Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy is in charge of arrangements. You may send your condolences and sign the guest registry online at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
