Lorraine Lloyd Oliver

Lorraine Lloyd Oliver, age 93, a native of Hiawassee, passed away at home on January 19, 2012. Mrs. Oliver (Bunny), born on October 27, 1918, was the daughter of the late Julia and Ross Lloyd. Besides her parents, Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by two brothers, William Ross Lloyd and Clarence Poe Lloyd, her husband, Loy Fred Oliver, Sr., and son,Loy Fred Oliver, Jr.

She is survived by three daughters, Anne Oliver Mitchell, Grace Oliver Howard, Maggie Oliver and son-in-law, Martin Howard; grandchildren, Ward Batty, Lynne Brackett, Lisa Morris, Clint Morris, Drew Oliver and Kelly Oliver. Great grandchildren Danielle Rolph, Bill Batty, Jefferson Brackett,, Donnie Cobb and Colton Morris.

Mrs. Oliver was a graduate of Young Harris College and worked briefly for the Towns County Herald, covering the 1938 opening of "Gone With the Wind." Having lived in many places including Georgia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee, she and her husband, Fred, returned home in retirement.

She was an energetic and tireless gardener and experimented extensively with organic gardening, growing many unusual fruits and vegetables. For relaxation she maintained a very large bird feeder where she fed all kinds of bird, squirrels (when she could not help it), raccoons and an occasional bear.

She loved life and participated in it fully. Her final resting place will be with her husband and son at Osborn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Hiawassee Garden Club, P.O. Box 531, Hiawassee, Georgia 30546.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m.
