Lydia Elizabeth Nix Saxon

April 17, 1921 — April 4, 2011

Lydia Elizabeth Nix Saxon, age 89, of Blairsville, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following a long illness. She was born April 21, 1921 in Blairsville, Georgia to the late Frank and Hattie England Nix. On October 18, 1936, She was united in marriage to Comer Edward Saxon. Mrs. Saxon worked as a riveter at the Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta, GA during WWII and was very proud to be amoung the ladies known as, " Rosie the Riveter". Sewing, gardening and quilting were her passion and she won several Blue Ribbon awards for quilts that she hand pieced and hand quilted. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Birt Columbus Nix and sister, Cora Nix Brown.

Lydia is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Comer Edward Saxon; two sons, Olen Saxon of Moriarty, NM and Dean Saxon and fiance Patti MacLean of Blairsville, GA; two daughters, Betty Louise Saxon Hopkins of Alpharetta, GA and Brenda Saxon Morgan and husband Jerry of Gainesville,GA; Ten Grandchildren and Nine Great Grandchildren.She is further survived by two sisters, Viola Jaworski and Elvia Brookshire; brother, Eugene Nix; and many nieces and nephews and other family members.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011 at the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Interment will be in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Stacy Hopkins, Derek Saxon, David Saxon, Jerry Morgan, Jamie Burnette and Dean Saxon.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Appalachian Home Health Care and Chatuge Regional Nursing Home for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Saxon. If you wish, In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzhiemer's Association.
