Mae Nichols Dills

February 14, 1929 — January 3, 2012

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Celebration of Life Services for Mae Nichols Dills, age 82, who received her just reward of eternal life and went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at her daughter's home in South Carolina following an amazingly courageous battle with colon cancer.

Born in Hiawassee, Georgia on February 14, 1929 to her late parents, Lawrence McKinley Nichols and Bessie Shook Nichols, Mae was the loving wife of her World War II sweetheart, Riley William Dills, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hiawassee and taught Sunday School for many years. Mae was an outgoing personality, who never met a stranger or was never at a loss for kind words or kind deeds. Mae loved her family dearly and lived a life devoted to the love and well-being of her family - who loved her and cherished her beyond words. She was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Gammie". Our mother and Gammie was the provider of encouragements and a giver of totally unconditional love.

Mae is survived by her daughters: Patricia (Patti) Dills Boseman and Peggy Dills Morris; her "son", James (Jim) Morris, III; extremely loving grandmother of Jaime Morris Powell and Brian Powell, Rylei Elizabeth Morris Lockhart and Jason Lockhart. Adoring great grandmother of Ethan Riley Powell and Aiden Riley Lockhart. She is survived by loving siblings: sister, Mildred (Me Me) Nichols Woody and brother-in-law, Walter Woody; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lex Nichols and Janice Davis Nichols; Ralph Nichols and Ramona West Nichols; Willard Nichols and Toni Mason Nichols. Mae was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law: Donnie and Lawrence Ellis; Bonnie and Grady Edwards, Florence and Dan Jenkins, Alva and Tom Cowart, and by her brother and sister-in-law Lawrence Nichols, Jr. and Jean Hedden Nichols. Mae is loved by many nieces and nephews, who held a special place in her heart. Mae loved her husband, Riley Dills', family as her own.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 7th, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee, Georgia. Reverend Chester Edwards (nephew) officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Church Fellowship Hall at 2:00 p.m., with a private family graveside service at 4:00 p.m., at Enotah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 280 Fairwinds Road, P.O. Box 127, Landrum, South Carolina 29356, phone: 864-457-9100.
