Nicholas Stephen Baumgartner

Nicholas Stephen Baumgartner, age 88, of Murphy, NC, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at his home in Peachtree. Nicholas Baumgartner was born October 28, 1929, in Punta Gorda, Florida, to the late Harry Edward Baumgartner and the late Myrna Moore Miller Baumgartner. Nick and his wife, Janice, moved from Fallbrook, CA, to make Murphy, NC, their home for the past 16 years. He was a U.S. Navy pilot and veteran, a Fire Captain for the L.A. City Fire Department for 23 years and retired as the Chief of the Aptos Fire Department in California, after ten years of service. In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death recently by his loving wife, Janice Baumgartner.



Survivors include his daughter, Susan Lynn Workman, his son, Steve Baumgartner, his brother, Robert E. Hinkel, seven grandchildren: Scott, Brian, Cameron, Brandon, Layne, Gwen, and Shannon, 6 +1 great-grandchildren; Iliana, Alexander, Lyra, Lars, Daphne, Alex, and an expected great-granddaughter in the near future.



A private burial will be held Friday, October 5, 2018, in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Murphy, NC.
