Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Neal Harkins, age 85, of Suches, Georgia, who passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Pauline was born in Blairsville on July 14, 1927 to the late Brim & Ida Elliott Jarrett. She grew up with her 3 siblings in the Jarrett Apple House at the Georgia Mountain Experiment Station. Pauline was valedictorian for Union County High School Class of 1945. She attended Young Harris College where she met the love of her life, Ira. He proposed on December 1 and the two were married December 15, 1945. She was a dedicated Army wife throughout Ira's military career. They had adventures in multiple stateside assignments and overseas to include Panama and the Philippine Islands. Pauline held the household together during his wartime service and was faithful to send letters of love and support. After retirement they moved back to Union County in 1981. Pauline enjoyed square dancing, ceramics and quilting. An eye for beauty, Pauline started tole painting various still life and floral pieces. She was a founding member of the Gaddistown Homemakers Society. Gifted with a heart of compassion she was sensitive to others needs. She had a sacrificial love for family and friends, devoting her time and energy into caring for them. With a deep faith, she was active in the church where she volunteered her talents to VBS, WMU, and any other opportunity for ministry. Most importantly, Pauline encouraged and nurtured her children's faith. Southern Hospitality was shown through her cooking and Pauline was famous for her Blue Berry Yum Yum.

She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially by her family: loving husband of 67 and 1/2 years, Ira T. Harkins; sons & daughters-in-law, Robert & Lyn Harkins and Tom & Karen Harkins; grandchildren, Eric Harkins and Joana Johansen and great grandchildren, Benjamin, Gavin and Gini Johansen.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Wilkes officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Suches. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Craig Harkins, Phil Harkins, Eric Harkins, Ray Burnette, Don Foster and Charlie Pierce. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 until 8:30 pm.
