Rosa Welch Wooten

Rosa Welch Wooten, age 83 of Andrews, NC, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Valley View Care Center. Mrs. Wooten was born Friday, December 18, 1925 in Gaston County, NC, to the late Columbus Wilkins Welch and the late Mamie M. Dill Welch.

Rosie, as she was called by most friends and family, was schooled in Gaston County, and then spent her late teen and early adult years working alongside her sister at a cotton mill to help support the family until the birth of her daughter, Dustina. Rosa and family moved to Andrews, NC, in 1957. As the years went by, Rosa dedicated herself to the care of her friends and family, and played a significant role in the lives of her two grandchildren, and recently, great-grandchildren. Rosie was also an active church member, and had many friends inside and outside her congregation at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marble. She enjoyed her church life and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include: daughter and husband, Dustina Wooten Reece and Todd Reece of Andrews; brother, Columbus Wilkins Welch, Jr. of Gastonia; grandson and wife, Jonathan Thaddeus & Allison Reece of Charlotte; granddaughter and husband, Emily Reece & Brent Burch of Andrews; great-grandsons, Jonathan Guy Burch, Graham Addington Burch, and Jack William Reece. Nieces, nephews, and in-laws also survive.

Rosa was preceded in death by twin brothers, Bob and Bill Welch, and sister, Mary Lee Hornsby, all of whom lived in Gastonia, NC.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Andrews United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kelley Jones and Reverend David Panther officiating. Music was provided by Louise Gilbert, Rosalind Hawk, Judy Hutchinson, Rebecca Panther and Jonathan Panther. Pallbearers were Jason Graves, Thaddeus Reece, Brent Burch, Michael C. Rogers, Eddie Hoilman and Jonathan Panther. Rosa was interred in Valleytown Cemetery, in Andrews.
