Sarah Ward Calverley, age 82 of Chipley went home to be ever with the Lord on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in Blairsville, GA. Sarah was born on November 1, 1933 To Amos and Leatus Ward in Commerce, GA. While serving as a USO secretary, Sarah met and later married Colonel Wesley Calverley in 1957 in Warner Robbins, GA. Wes and Sarah raised two children, Monica Calverley Rehberg, born in 1960, and John Wesley Calverley, born is 1964.

Wes, Sarah and their two children moved to Chipley in 1970 and became active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Chipley. Wes passed away in 1975 and Sarah devoted her time to volunteer work around the church. Her life revolved around the workings of the church. She was honored by the Women of the Church with an Honorary Life Membership in 1990 and in 1994 Sarah was honored by the Presbytery of Florida with the Small Church Layperson of the Year Award. She was active in the Noon circle, served as Sunday School Secretary, Women's Treasurer, and Church Librarian. She loved working with the youth and was affectionately known as "Granny Sarah" to the youth of First Presbyterian Church.

Sarah was an avid gardener and loved flowers of all kinds and the outdoors. In 1991, Sarah was blessed with her first grandchild, Kiley. Being a grandmother was Sarah's favorite role later in life.

Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and oldest brother, Bernard Ward. She is survived by her daughter, Monica Calverley Rehberg of Chipley, her son, John Calverley of Blairsville, GA, granddaughter, Kiley Rehberg Summerhill (Steven) of Chipley, one brother, Johnny Ward (Becky) of Gillsville, GA, two sisters, Joyce Duncan Hart of Royston, GA and Hazel Bridges Brooks of Watkinsville, GA, one sister in law, Alice Ward of Pensacola, FL and a host of nieces and nephews.

Also left to cherish her memory is her closest friend, Juanita Myers of Chipley, her "adopted" daughters, Barbara Myers Russell and Sherri Myers Biddle, and "adopted" grandsons, Kevin Russell and Brandon Biddle (Sarah), and great grandson, Bradley Biddle all of Chipley.

A Celebration of Sarah's life was held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Chipley, and the family received friends one hour prior to the service for visitation. Interment followed at Glenwood Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, Sarah requested that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building and Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 237, Chipley, FL 32428.
