Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death of Rev. Thurman Benson, Jr., of Blairsville, age 83, who passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Rev. Benson was a native of Pitts, Georgia, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having spent 21 years in service. Rev. Benson spent over 20 years as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thurman loved God, and never passed up an opportunity to share Jesus Christ with others. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville. He had been preceded in death by a son, David, who passed away in 2009.

Rev. Benson leaves behind his loving family members: wife, Carolyn; daughter and son-in-law, Sheree and Tim Kilpatrick; son, Thurman Benson, III; daughter and son-in-law, Mechelle and Dr. Steve Peterson; son and daughter-in-law, Sheldon and Angela Benson; and daughter, Lynette Moore; brother: Bobby Benson; sisters: Emily Wise, Ramona Dominey, Judy Tripp, Sharon Martin, and Shirley Miller; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Frazier and Son Funeral Home in Rochelle, Georgia. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 737 Hwy. 159, Pitts, Georgia 31072.
