Tommy Ray Cook

Mr. Tommy Ray Cook of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away at Erlanger Hospital on Friday, June 29, 2012.

Tommy was born May 21, 1953 to Ruth and E L Cook. He was one of five sons: Kenneth, Jerry, Troy and Loy.

Tommy served in the United States Navy as Boiler”s Mate. He was a member of Mountain Grace Baptist Church. Tommy enjoyed working in his garden. Doing special things for the people he loved was very important to Tommy. He would work for hours carefully collecting nuts and cracking them for his family and friends. Keeping a close check on relatives and friends with daily phone calls was important to Tommy. Louis L'Amour was Tommy's favorite author of western novels. He enjoyed watching the “westerns” on television and frequently tuned in to Gunsmoke. Trucking was a job that Tommy was passionate about earlier in his life. He enjoyed coffee with his Uncle Everett Sexton and Kyle Moss every day.

Tommy's mother, Ruth Cook, father, E L, and niece Keri Cook, preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughters, Rachel and Madelyn Cook and grandson Caden Cook; brothers: Kenneth Cook, Jerry Cook, Troy Cook and Loy Cook. Tommy's cousin, Kathy Moss, was like a sister to him. His uncles, Everett and Edward Sexton were father figures in his life. His special friends were Kyle Moss and Larry Garrett.

Tommy will be remembered as a loving father, hard worker, caring brother and a friend to many. The staff of Erlanger Hospital took excellent care of Tommy. The doctors and nurses of the surgical ICU unit at Erlanger Hospital showered him with compassion and concern.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Moss officiating. Music will be presented by Danny Moss, Zach Moss, Elizabeth Moss and Amanda Garrett. Interment will follow in the Track Rock Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Wade Plott officiating. Pallbearers include nephews: Oran, Daniel, Jeff and Matthew Cook. Larry Garrett and Anthony Coker will also serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
