Rev. Vernon Ernest Davenport, age 81 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta due to injuries recieved in an automobile accident. Rev. Davenport was born Monday, May 9, 1927 in Union County GA to the late Bill Davenport and the late Clara Teague Davenport. Vernon was a member and Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church and an area Minister since 1950. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellav Davenport and son, Jackie Davenport.
Survivors include: wife, Bonnie Mason Davenport of Blairsville, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Betty & Louis Henderson of Blairsville, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Marie & Bruce Fortenberry of Calhoun, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Doris & Roy Hefner of Blairsville, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Anita & Robert Olmos of Calhoun, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Shirley & Wayne Aldridge of Dahlonega, GA, step-children, Janice Morgan, Wanda and Ronald Deyton, Tony Ledford, Tracy and Rex Rogers and Troy Ledford, all of Blairsville and 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Allison, Rev. Grady Ray and Dr. Don Pruitt officiating. Music will be provided by the Moss Family and Denise Campbell. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Richard Tanner, Vick Botts, Marshall Newman, Larry McCollum, John Harden and H.L. Rogers. Honorary pallbearers include: Rev. Ray Potts, Rev. Cotton Harris, Rev. Frank Dockery, Rev. Don Hood, Rev. Leeander Chastain and Rev. Trannis Colwell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 PM, Wednesday, March 25.
The family is recieving flowers, however, if you wish, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Building Fund.
