Mr. Wayne Charles Cornwell, age 78 of Murphy, passed away July 3, 2013 at Murphy Medical Center. Mr. Cornwell was born July 21, 1934 in Clay Co., NC to the late Sam Cornwell and the late Julia Green Cornwell. A member & Deacon at Little Glade Baptist Church and the River Valley Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by Father, Sam Cornwell, Mother, Julia Green Cornwell, Son, Randell Wayne Cornwell, and Brother Gene Cornwell. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his loving family & friends.

Survivors include: wife, Virginia D. Cornwell, son, Roy N. Cornwell, granddaughter, Heather Hadley & great-granddaughter, Ella Hadley, brother, Howard Cornwell, sister, Wilma Cornwell Hogsed, brother, Harold Cornwell and many nieces & nephews.

Funeral services: 2:00 P.M. Sunday July 7, 2013 at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Stiles and speaker, Mike Totherow officiating. Music provided by Tomotla Quartet. Interment will follow in Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by veterans organizations: Murphy VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96 and DAV Chapter 73 and Clay County VFW Post 6812. Pallbearers: Leroy Dockery, Kenneth Dockery, Jammie Lance, Blake McDonald, Brett McDonald, & David McDonald. Honorary pallbearers include Mike Carter and Ricky McDonald.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home Sunday, July 7, 2013 from noon to Service time at 2:00 P.M.
