Arthur Morris Gurr

Arthur M. Gurr, 96, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, GA. Arthur was born January 7, 1927, in Snow Springs, GA to Earnest and Berta Gurr. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hucks Gurr; father, Earnest Gurr; mother, Berta Gurr; and son, Michael Gurr.

He is survived by his daughter Sheila (Carlos) Phillips; son Morris (Sarah) Gurr; daughter-in-law Donna Gurr; brother Jimmy (Patsy) Gurr; grandchildren, Jennifer Talley, Aimee Jenkins, Jon Gurr, Tony Gurr, and Chris Gurr.  He is also survived by 15 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Arthur served in the US Navy from 1944-1947. Formally from Americus, Ga, where he raised his children, he worked in Law Enforcement. He moved to Blairsville in May of 1979.  He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Teacher.  He was a member of 114 F&AM, Knights Templer, Schottish Rite Shrinners, the Union County Lions Club and the Georgia Peace Officers Association.  He attended FBI Accademy and Darton College.

Funeral Service, on Sunday February 12, 2023 at 3:30 PM at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Blairsville, GA. with Rev George Cline officiating. Pallbearers: Jason Karnes, Mike Bittel, Gary Cook, Steve Drake, Duane Manders, and Clarence Phillips.

The deacons of Antioch Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.   Honorary include Lions Club and Local Police Officers.

The family will receive friends at Antioch Baptist Church, Blairsville, GA, Sunday February 12, 2023, from 2:00 PM - 3:15 PM. 

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lions Club Lighthouse for the Blind.
