Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces the death and funeral services for Mr. Charles Bernard Stewart, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away on Thursday, January 14th, 2021.
Charles was born in Taliferro County, Georgia, a son of the late Henry Miller Stewart and the late Cornelia Denham Stewart. He had been living in Blairsville since 1992, moving here from Sparta, Georgia. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville and he was a member of the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out). Charles had owned a restaurant for 25 years and was a chef. He also had worked on a cruise boat at Fripp Island. Charles traveled extensively all over the country to help with natural disasters and doing mission work. He was a witty guy, full of character, and loved being around people. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Stewart; two brothers, Howard Stewart and George Stewart.
Surviving family members include daughter and her husband, Pam and Earl Grier, of Douglasville, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Amy Lane of Eatonton, Georgia; step-daughter and her husband, Karen and Gary Meeks, of Sparta, Georgia; brothers: Leonard C. Stewart and Douglas Stewart; grandchildren: Chelsea (Branden) Slay, Lindsey (Amy) Meeks, Jenna (Kevin) Grimes, Amanda (Brian) Wooten, and Alex Wittle; great grandchildren: Tanner and Shelby Grimes, Logan and Reagan Meeks, Jack and Bo Wooten, Launa Raines, Kolby Slay, and Kadence Slay.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday, January 19th, 2021 to be held at 11:00 a.m., in the First Baptist Church of Blairsville's Main Sanctuary, with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 10:00 am on Tuesday. Burial will be held in Powelton Cemetery in Sparta, Georgia, with Rev. Brian Hill officiating at the graveside.
