Sue Unger

January 31, 1943 — April 13, 2022

Sue Unger, 79, passed away on April 13, 2022, in Gainesville, GA.

Sue was born on January 31, 1943 in Michigan City, IN, to Paul and Evelyn (Voss) Hanna.

She graduated from Elston High School in 1961. She enjoyed working a wide variety of jobs, including being a receptionist, a sales representative, a realtor, a disco dance teacher at the YMCA, a bartender, and a flight attendant (starting at age 50).

Sue married Edward Unger, the love of her life, on March 20, 1982, in Highland, IL. They were happily married for 34 years. The couple enjoyed living together in homes in Illinois, Kansas, New Jersey, Virginia, Florida, and Georgia.

Sue was a loving, devoted and very proud mother of two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer Rice. She faithfully attended, often participated, and cheered at all of their in-school and after-school activities. In her retirement years, she was a loving, devoted, and very, very, proud grandmother to her grandson, Samuel Agrillo.

Sue faithfully served her Lord, the Church family at Union Hill Church in Hiawassee, and the community by volunteering at the local food bank, the Covid-19 shot clinic, and the Church's annual rummage sale. In addition, she was a leader of the Church ladies group and served on the Church Board of Trustees.

Sue is survived by her daughter Jennifer Rice and grandson, Samuel Agrillo of West Palm Beach, FL, and her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Berta Rice of Raleigh, NC.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ed, her parents, her two sisters, Ellen and Nancy, and her three brothers, Pete, Larry, and Bob.

A memorial service will be held for Sue on Saturday, April 16, at 3 p.m. at the Union Hill Church, United Methodist, Hiawassee, GA.
