Wayne Garn

July 15, 1928 — January 16, 2022

Wayne Stewart Garn, age 93, of Hiawassee, GA, passed peacefully from his home here to glory, with his loving wife, daughter and son-in-law by his side, on January 16, 2022. He was born on July 15, 1928 in Fremont, Ohio, to Merton and Lottie Garn.

Wayne was a veteran who served his country as an army sergeant. He was an electrician for 20 years and an electrical engineer for 15 years at JFK Hospital in Florida. He retired early, at the age of 53. He enjoyed traveling, antique cars, old coins, telling a good joke and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his faith and love for the Lord. He was the first to give God the glory in all things.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Rene. They celebrated 66 years in October, 2021. He will be greatly missed by his son, Steve (Kim) and his daughter, Beth (Don). He was treasured by his grandchildren: Rachel (Zack), Ryan (Christina), Jordan (Katie), Chad (Nikki), Cody (Sandy) and Caitlin (Brian). He also dearly loved his 11 great grandchildren: Anthony, Leah, Anna, Scarlett, Franklin, June, Ellis, Daphne, Theodore, Camden and Colson.

Wayne and Rene fell in love with these Georgian mountains back in the 60’s. He designed and helped build their vacation home in Hiawassee in the mid 70’s and enjoyed many years there with their family. He was often found on the lake boating with his kids and then their kids. They were able to move to Hiawassee full time in 2020. He loved the Georgia Mountain Fair and was a member of the Lions Club for about 30 years. Wayne was a long time member of McConnell Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Builders Sunday School Class.

He had a huge smile and everyone that met him loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Lottie and his sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Win Pulsifer.

Wayne had a passion for Jesus. He was honest, faithful and kind. He loved to kid around and after visiting with him he was often heard saying, “Glad ya got to see me.” We were blessed to have him and share him with the world. He was a loving husband, an amazing father and a wonderful grandfather and great grandfather. The memories we have will live on forever and he will be greatly missed. We find great comfort knowing he entered Heaven and we will see him again one day.

There will be a “Celebration of Life” service on February 6, 2022, from 2-4 pm at Clerbrook Golf and RV Resort, Clermont, Fl.  Another “Celebration of Life” service will be held on April 9, 2022, at 2 pm at McConnell Baptist Church Hiawassee, Ga. Both services will be followed by luncheon.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate any donations to Regency Hospice (Hiawassee, Ga) or Mike Connelly Hospice (Clermont, Fl).
